SOONER OR LATER WE TEND TO FIGURE OUT...:
Clash of interests keeps Lebanon unquiet (Janine Zacharia, 4/01/08, Bloomberg News)
During six months of paralysis in electing a Lebanese president, Iranian and Syrian support for the Shiite Muslim party, Hezbollah, has flourished while the United States has tried to keep its Sunni ally, Prime Minister Fouad Siniora, from being ousted. In this contest is the danger that Lebanon may turn into a full-fledged battleground in the ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran, which is allied with Syria to derail Lebanon's fragile democracy.
The possibility of bloodshed within Lebanon's sensitive patchwork of Sunnis, Shiites and Christians recalls the civil war that savaged Beirut from 1975 to 1990, killing thousands of Lebanese and hundreds of Americans, too.
...that we need to stop helping Sunni oppress Shi'ites. Posted by Orrin Judd at April 1, 2008 10:33 AM
I think the assasination of certain members in the parliament, like the Gemayels, certain Army
officers; have a little to do with it.
It doesn't. All that matters is it's a false country built on oppression of the majority.
Posted by: oj at April 1, 2008 4:27 PMThe majority's leaders are anti-western zealots in league with Iran; and the break-up of the country will lead to the death of one of the few multicultural (in the good sense)countries in the middle east.
