Next time you hear a leading presidential candidate try to woo you with his nine-point immigration enforcement plan or his secure ID plan or his Secure Borders platform, point to the Incredible Disappearing Border Fence. Poof. That is what happens to election-season homeland security promises. Why would theirs be any different?

We should be reacting to the present regime of winked-at illegal immigrant labor as morally aware people had reacted to African slavery.
It could have been predicted that an open borders system would have led to a caste system, sort of along the lines of Spartiates and Helots. The illegals are cynically exploited, hewing wood and bearing water for the privileged, without the benefits and immunities of full citizens.
If we assent to the efficacy of markets, we must immediately see the injustice here. It the border-jumpers are doing work that "Americans won't do," that can only mean that they are doing that work for less than Americans would accept for it. So we are lounging on the desparation of the afflicted, as surely at though we were sipping our mint julips on a porticoed veranda.

As to the "desparation of the afflicted", they become rich in a generation. Where in the injustice, that can not be seen by those being oppressed?
