FDA official quits over Plan B pill delay (LAURAN NEERGAARD, August 31, 2005, AP)

A high-ranking Food and Drug Administration official resigned Wednesday in protest of the agency's refusal to allow over-the-counter sales of emergency contraception.

Susan Wood, director of FDA's Office of Women's Health, announced her resignation in an e-mail to colleagues at the agency.


...If the agency charged with guaranteeing the safety of of the nation's food and drug supplies stands for anything it has to stand for access to deadly drugs.

That's their purpose, at least in part. You take them after you think you may have created life.

Kinda like how the department of defense stands for the death of non-threatening innocent bystanders. For the most part. Every now and then they nab a few terrorists, well, at least they call them terrorists...After their dead...But its ok, it will all work out for the better in the end...Thats what they tell us...For the past 2000 years....or so...

The FDA is one of the most politicized departments of the federal government. An agency that is supposed to use science and public health to drive its regulatory authority winds up making decisions on the basis of politics all too often. Science = politics only in political science.

The FDA, like the Departments of Agriculture and State, are in need of total overhaul.
