HAVING DEMOCRATIZED NICARAGUA:

Iran-Contra Figure to Lead Democracy Efforts Abroad (Washington Post, February 3, 2005)

Elliott Abrams, who pleaded guilty in 1991 to withholding information from Congress in the Iran-contra affair, was promoted to deputy national security adviser to President Bush.

Abrams, who previously was in charge of Middle East affairs, will be responsible for pushing Bush's strategy for advancing democracy.

Bush should have mentioned Venezuela in his speech Wednesday night. Chris Dodd would have had a stroke right in the chamber.

Very nice to Mr. Abrams back in the saddle.

When you listen to his public statements it's tough to imagine what gets Kleagle Byrd angrier, the presence of Rice at State or the presence of Abrams in any governmental function. If Byrd had his choice, Rice would be picking cotton and Abrams would have been put in an oven.
