SHE CHOSE...:
Rice Expected to Be Named Secretary of State (Fox News, November 15, 2004)
White House officials said Monday they expect President Bush to name Condoleezza Rice to replace Colin Powell as secretary of state, sources told FOX News on Monday night.Posted by Orrin Judd at November 15, 2004 8:15 PMIf nominated and confirmed, Rice would be the second woman and the second African American to be the nation's top foreign policy representative.
Deputy National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley will take Rice's place as head of the NSA upon her confirmation as secretary of state, FOX News has learned.
A pity that Madeleine's Not-at-Albright beat her to being the first woman Secretary of State.
Posted by: AC at November 15, 2004 9:05 PMRice is an excellent choice for Secretary of State; she has earned it and I'm happy to have her representing us overseas.
But...Hadley for NSA? Who the heck is he? Wolfowitz is a better choice. Thoughtful, intelligent, and has served in the trenches and deserves promotion.
Posted by: HT at November 15, 2004 10:24 PMPresumably being a conservative academic who made it as far as she did means she knows her way around bureaucratic turf wars, but cleaning up the State Department is going to make the job Porter Goss is trying to do look like Chutes and Ladders.
Posted by: brian at November 15, 2004 11:36 PMOJ: how does this affect your hunch that she's going to be vice-president one day (replacing Cheney)?
Posted by: george at November 16, 2004 1:09 AMShe'll already have been confirmed by the Senate, a major hang-up for Rockefeller.
Posted by: oj at November 16, 2004 7:06 AMHadley has a fair amount of experience in policy-level international issues WRT defense, including NATO, strategic arms reduction treaties and ballistic missile defense issues, and served on a major panel re: the intel community.
In the private sector, he was a member of Brent Scowcroft's international consulting group and a partner at a major DC law firm. (Scowcroft was a high-level official under Ford and then under the elder Bush.)
Posted by: rkb at November 16, 2004 8:01 AMHave you heard the Blacktivist Party Line that Powell and Rice "ain't really black"? It also claims that Clinton was.
What's their definition of "black"?

No problem. She already knows how to herd kittens.
She was provost at Stamford.
