ACTUALLY, YOU'VE GOT NEITHER:

'We have the belief, they have the power' (MARIAM FAM, 8/15/04, Chicago Sun-Times)

While no match for the U.S. military, the Mahdi Army militia loyal to rebel Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr has bedeviled coalition troops across Iraq for weeks at a time, its young fighters driven by religious zeal, desperation and an apparent readiness to die.

Their uprising also has soured relations between coalition forces and some of Iraq's Shiites, once grateful for a U.S.-led war that freed them from Saddam Hussein.

''We have the belief, they have the power,'' said one fighter known as Abu Ghadhib. ''I think the belief is stronger than the power.''

Yes, but the problem for Mookie is that our beliefs are stronger too. From thence derives the power.

The footage of the street demonstrations yesterday tends to undercut your contention that Shiites despise him.

Maybe they did once.

Of course you're still convinced that Iron Curtain crowds were there because they loved Communism.

Anyone who believes that pictures of mobs are indicative of political support is engaged in wishful thinking or self-delusion, especially when there's a compliant and supportive press involved to make sure no one sees how small the crowd really is. This happens so often using the same techniques it must be one of the first courses taken in Journalism School.

Regardless of beliefs, sufficient quantities of tritonal, accuratelty delivered, seems to leave the odd mark or two.

Yamamoto knew about American beliefs, and power. Mookie (!) will find out. He is so pre-9/11.
